Ingredients
½ tbsp olive oil
¼ cup chopped onion (fresh or frozen)
¼ cup chopped bell pepper (fresh or frozen)
1 small garlic clove, minced (or ¼ tsp garlic powder)
¼ lb (4 oz) ground turkey or beef
½ cup canned diced tomatoes
½ cup canned beans (kidney, black, or pinto), drained
¼ cup water or broth
½ tsp chili powder
¼ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp paprika
Salt & pepper to taste
Optional toppings:
Shredded cheese
Sour cream
Green onions
Crushed tortilla chips
Preparation
Step 1
Heat ½ tbsp olive oil in a small pot or skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper; cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds (skip this step if using garlic powder).
Step 2
Add the ground turkey or beef.Break it apart with a spoon and cook until fully browned.
Step 3
Stir in the beans, diced tomatoes, and spices:
½ tsp chili powder
¼ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp paprika
salt & pepper to taste
Pour in ¼ cup water or broth to loosen the mixture and stir well.
Step 4
Simmer for 10–15 minutes until thickened and flavorful. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve hot with optional toppings like cheese, sour cream, green onions, or crushed tortilla chips.
